Although the economy is starting to slowly rebound, during the recession many people learned how important a college education is to not only getting a job, but also keeping one. There are now millions of adults and young people applying and enrolling in college based on the common thought that a college degree is almost as essential a requirement as a high school diploma. With so many people trying to pursue their dreams, it is unfortunate to think that anywhere from twenty to thirty percent of incoming freshman will either fail or drop out before their senior year comes. This is why it is important to learn some of the key strategies that will help increase your likelihood of achieving success.

Some colleges are very small, while others are large. The courses required to earn a degree also vary among institutions. To earn an associate's degree, a student would enroll in a two-year community college. To earn a bachelor's degree, a student would enroll in a four-year institution. Some schools do only undergraduate degrees, while some also offer postgraduate programs.

Especially if you are able to see succeeding in college as a matter of life or death, then you will certainly do your absolute best to make that happen. The two central elements for this are calculated planning and keen organization. Making a plan with deliberate calculation will help you be prepared for many different scenarios, as well as keep your steps and actions synchronized and focused throughout the entire college process. With all of the class assignments, study groups and other meetings, and countless other basic life things, nothing will be done, or at least done properly, without having rigorous, thorough organization.

Even if you feel that you have difficulty making friends, it is still important that you build a network of bonds and associations, as you will likely be working in the professional world and may come to rely on the skills and knowledge of different people of different disciplines. Having positive interactions and influences, both among your peers and your professors, is key to keeping your as stress-free as possible, besides possibly making unexpected situations more adaptable, as there are people willing to understand and assist. Never hesitate to ask for help or advice anytime you need it because no one can succeed alone. The communication and leadership skills that you need in the professional world will be developed and refined as you also give help and assistance to others in the same manner as it was given to you.

More than anything, you must keep your mind and body healthy. Nothing mentioned above will matter too much if you are not healthy enough to go and stay in college. Every college has some sort of clinic or health center, in addition to student support and counseling services, which you should definitely make use of as the need arises. As you work your way through college, which is a gateway to success, you must take advantage of every resource and opportunity each and every step of the way.
