The write-up will assess the differences of Harvard in contrast to its rival institutions such as the Ivy League, MIT and of course, Stanford. In the age of recession, a good education bares a new value. Aspiring graduates and their parents plan for the future as they strive to get the best start in life. We'd like this write-up to further your insight.

Harvard was founded in 1636. Named after its first benefactor and supported by the Massachusetts legislature, Harvard is the oldest higher education institution in the US and is revered throughout the world for its illustrious history and prestige. The Harvard brand has shaped some of the worlds leaders in culture, technology and politics, not least Natalie Portman, Mark Zuckerberg and, of course, Barack Obama.

How do the acceptance rates of Harvard contrast to its rivals then? MIT fairs better than both Stanford and Harvard with rates of acceptance at 9.7%. Meanwhile, Stanford and Harvard has rates of 7%, the most difficult in the US. Applicants who succeed have a couple of factors in common. They include a strong Grade Point Average coupled with illustrious extra-curricular achievements too.

How does the geography of Harvard contrast with other universities then? Well, that depends on your preferences actually. If you're drawn to history, then Boston is the place for you. Boston, of course, is the home of the US revolution. On the other hand, if you're drawn to San Francisco and the Pacific, perhaps you'll fair better at Stanford. Both curios are a commute away. Many students are drawn to NYU and Yale if they're hungry for a bite of the Big Apple. Yale is but an hour away.

We hope this brief foray into the world of US higher education has been useful to you. If you're looking for a more in depth analysis, please explore our links.
