It can seem like a dream that you are finally in college! But what's next? Beginning college can be an exciting but awkward time. Here are a few tips that will assist you in getting accustomed to college fast, giving you time to enjoy yourself.

If you do well in one subject of academics, you should explore the career options in that area and also look into tutoring. You can make some extra money being a tutor on campus. Advertise on bulletin boards in the dorm or at the student center. There are also places you can advertise on the Internet.

Only bring what you need to your dorm. Dorms can be very cramped, and clutter takes a toll quickly. Write out a basic list of necessities and then shop strictly within it. Seek out designs that save space and offer compact solutions.

Surround yourself with goal-oriented people. When you surround yourself with like minded students, you will be sure to do well. Make sure that you have as much fun as possible with these people though. A healthy balance of studying and fun can be achieved.

Stay away from plagiarizing! While you are in college, you will write a great many papers. It's important to cite sources the right way. Never underestimate your professors' ability to spot someone else's words or work.

If you work full time but want to continue your education, you can take classes online. These types of classes are great for people that have very busy schedules or who don't live near a university. When you attend an online university, you can do your coursework at your convenience.

Make sure you are up on all the different scholarships and grants you may be eligible for. Many scholarships are for unique characteristics or may not be widely publicized. Also check into forgivable loans and government grants.

Give the school a year before deciding if it's right for you. Many college students feel homesick, awkward or like this whole thing was a mistake when they first get to college because it is an entirely different environment than they're used to. After you attend for a year and you still don't like the school, then you should think about making changes.

Keep yourself properly hydrated throughout the day. Doing this will help you eliminate unwanted toxins from your body. This can help you with your grades and your outlook during college.

Always pay off your credit card every single month so you don't carry a balance. Otherwise, unnecessary interest and penalties may accrue. If paying off your balance is too difficult, keep a credit card to use in emergencies only. Don't use it to go to the movies, bar or a restaurant. Having problems with your finances can distract you quite a bit.

Use the campus gym frequently. Here, you'll be able to meet others that are active in your school while you also keep yourself fit. You may even find a workout buddy.

If you like to drink coffee, do not purchase a cup of it each morning. Coffeehouses charge too much. Brew your own coffee. It might not be quite as convenient as visiting the neighborhood coffee shop, but it's a lot cheaper. A quality coffee machine is a great investment that will save you money in the future.

Take different electives. You are much more likely to discover your true passion, if you study all kinds of different concepts. Your first year in school needs to be a year where you step out of the box and participate in things that you didn't think about when you were back in high school.

This article should have you well on your way to planning for your college experience. College can be a new beginning for you. It's crucial to learn all you can.
